NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR RURAL INDUSTRIALIZATION
(A National Resource centre to demonstrate a successful model of rural industrialization)

a resource centre in a backward rural region of Gujarat to demonstrate a workable strategy for taking industrialization into remote rural areas
- Suggested location of the institute:
It is proposed that the resource centre for rural industrialization be located in the Lok Bharati Vidyapith at Sanosara in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat
- Philosophy behind the suggestion:
Gandhiji's vision of taking industries into rural region is contained in the following statement:
"When the people would do manual labour, there would be no unemployment or starvation. My Nai Talim and the village industries are mutually complementary. When they both will be a success, we will attain true Swaraj "
It is noted that Gandhiji's philosophy of educational through craft was successfully demonstrated in Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Lok Bharati Vidyapith has the unique honour of showing to the world that a work oriented education is possible in a rural region.
Using this success story it is proposed to show the model of rural industrialization using a three level technology delivery system.
- Importance of Gujarat as a venue for pilot project :
Gujarat today tops in creation of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). But these industries are incertain urban zones like Ahmedabad, Surat, Varodara but when one examines regions like Saurashtra there is no stress of industrial development.
